RAINBOW VARIATIONS

“RAINBOW VARIATIONS” (2009 – ongoing) is an experimental project that explores the possibility of creating variations that together resemble an artificial rainbow of colors. Using an iterative approach, images by combining utilizing natural phenomena and digital devices. The images originally derive from close-up shots of rainbow-colored advertisement posters that can be seen on the vending machines in Tokyo. The concept of “RAINBOW VARIATIONS” is to explore the undecidability of images – in other words – to explore the possibilities of iteration and regeneration of images. Since 2009, the artist has made five photographic series and two video works following the concept of “RAINBOW VARIATIONS”. Each variation was made from existing prints from the first series of the project: “RAINBOWS FORM” (2009).
