本作は『RAINBOW VARIATIONS』2 番目のシリーズ。『RAINBOW FORM』シリーズのインクジェットプリントを自宅のベランダに設置し、雨や雪によってイメージが融解していく過程を断続的に撮影した。本作で小山は、自然現象がイメージに作用する状況を意図的に設定することによって、プリントの表面で起こる微細な変化を観察し、イメージが偶発的に変換されていくプロセスそのものを作品化した。

MELTING RAINBOWS
This work is the 2nd series of “RAINBOW VARIATIONS”. This series depicts the deterioration of an image due to the effects of rain, snow and sunlight. The deterioration process of the rainbow colored inkjet print of “RAINBOW FORM” (2009) is photographed intermittently while being left outside on a balcony of the artist’s house. The process of transformation, brought on by nature, is captured in these photographs depicting microscopic changes in the surface of the print.
