本作は『RAINBOW VARIATIONS』3 番目のシリーズ。『瀬戸内国際芸術祭2013』の『醤油倉庫蔵アーティスト・イン・レジデンス・プロジェクト』で制作、発表した。本作で小山は『RAINBOW FORM』シリーズのプリントを小豆島の海岸に沈めて再撮影することによって、瀬戸内海のきめ細かい波がもたらすレンズ効果によって虹色のイメージ元素ともいえる無数の印刷ドットが伸縮する様子を視覚化した。

RAINBOW WAVES
This work is the 3rd series of “RAINBOW VARIATIONS”. This series was produced during the “Artist in Residence Project at the Soy Sauce Warehouse” in Shodoshima Island as a part of the “Setouchi Triennale 2013”. In this work, the artist sank the rainbow colored inkjet prints of “RAINBOW FORM” (2009) in the sea of the island coastline. He then photographed the gentle waves and ripples of the inland sea which created a lens-like effect that magnified and minimized the colorful print-dots of the print.
